The most common way to ruin a racket
It is not a fall and it is not the wall. It is the car.
In summer a boot easily reaches 60 degrees and more. The foam core reacts: it permanently loses its spring, the racket goes dull and dead. This happens gradually and cannot be undone.
The six points that matter
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Heat in the car | Never leave it in the boot — take it inside |
| Got wet | Dry at room temperature, not on a radiator |
| Storage | Dry, temperate, in a thermal cover |
| Cold | Let it acclimatise before playing |
| After playing | Wipe off sand and dust |
| Frame | Check the protector and replace it in time |
Winter storage
Avoid major temperature changes and store the racket in a dry indoor space at a moderate temperature. Let it acclimatise before playing and do not leave it stored in a cold car.
How to spot a tired racket
- The sound changes — dull instead of bright on contact
- Less feedback — the ball comes off less lively
- You hit harder than before to reach the same pace
- Visible hairline cracks on the frame, especially at the edges
How long a racket remains usable depends on use, care and the loads it experiences. Check the frame and face for cracks and watch for lasting changes in playing feel. A change in sound alone is not reliable proof of wear.
The frame protector
The frame is the most vulnerable part. A protector costs a few euros and stops ground contact or wall knocks from damaging the carbon.
Important: replace the tape in time. Once it is worn through it no longer protects, and the next knock hits the frame directly.

- Can a padel racket get wet?
- Briefly yes, permanently no. After playing in rain, let it dry at room temperature — not on a radiator or in direct sun.
- Do you need a thermal cover?
- It helps if the racket is regularly carried in a car. It slows heating but does not replace taking it out of a hot vehicle.
- Can a crack be repaired?
- Usually not worth it. A crack in the frame means the structure is compromised — repairs rarely hold and change how it plays.
- How often should you clean a racket?
- A quick wipe after each match is enough. Sand on the surface acts like sandpaper and gradually removes grip from the face.
